Disaster can linger with endless repairs, insurance difficulties, financial problems, prolonged stress, tension, exhaustion and health concerns. Feelings of hopelessness, sadness, frustration, anger and anxiety are common. These are normal reactions to an abnormal event.

How to Cope - What works
  • Talk with others about how you are feeling.
  • Don’t overwork yourself.
  • Take time for recreation, relaxation and favorite hobby.
  • Don’t become isolated.
  • Pay attention to physical health - diet, exercise, adequate sleep.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol or drug use.
  • Maintain family routines.
  • Share time with your spouse, partner, significant other.
  • Take time to talk with your children about their experiences.
  • Offer help to others in need.
