Sharps (needles, syringes, and lancets) that are not properly handled, or are improperly discarded, can pose a serious risk of infection and diseases to family members (especially children), sanitation worker, and others who may accidentally come in contact with a discarded sharp. This program provides home users of sharps a safe way to dispose of used needles, syringes, and lancets.
Wisconsin State Law required that sharps used in the home be properly discarded. To properly discard used sharps, do:
Purchase approved container from Adams County Landfill
Put used sharps in approved container
Lock the lid when container is full
Wipe outside of container with any household cleaner
Place container in plastic bag and deliver to the Adams County Landfill
IMPORTANT:
Do not discard in household garbage.
Do not try to recycle your used sharps.
Do not try to separate needle from syringe.
Place all used sharps intact in the approved container.
Keep your sharps box out of the reach of children.
Since disposal in household garbage is no longer acceptable, the Adams County Landfill & Recycling Center is now offering to collect your properly packaged used sharps. We will ensure that your sharps are properly and safely disposed of.
